O: In hand, L toes tucked closed and not open. L leg weaker still than R leg, R leg has normal use and resistance. On ground, bird is back to completely knuckling L foot, walking on toes, not putting full weight on L foot.

A: Bird is starting to eat on own but concerned that bird seems to be starting to knuckle L foot again. Records indicate knuckling has been intermittent but was seen throughout treatment today. Prognosis is very guarded if use of L leg/foot is starting to worsen at this time in care.

P: Replace shoe on L foot is knuckling persists. Restart meloxicam for a few days to see if this helps with knuckling.

Performed PT on both legs: reflexive response of left foot to extension of hock joint seems a bit improved, leg feels much less toned and resistant than R. Opened and closed toes on both feet several times - tried to prompt bird to grab items and move toes on own but would not. Gave oral meds in hand. collected 25g fish scrap. Dropped 61g pigeon and fish on chop block.

Small skin tear at R commissure of mouth. Placed bird on ground: bird stood and walked a few steps, heavily favoring L leg, keeping L leg out in front of body. Occasionally knuckled LD1 under foot but mostly kept foot open. Took x-rays: bones present in ventriculus, fecal material backed up in GI tract. No significant bony changes noted in tail/spine from intake x-rays. Bird appears visual OU. Drew blood from the R medial metatarsal vein.

A: Bird seems to be improving slowly but still struggling with skewed tail and weak L leg. Still not eating on own so tried live mouse with shoe off. Lead levels slightly lower, electing not to repeat chelation at this time.

P: Monitor fecal output, give SQ fluids for a few days to help with back up. Monitor use of legs/ability to stand without shoe, watch for knuckling L foot.

O: Weighed, collected fecal from cage. DNE. Collected blood from left leg for lead test - 5.1. Manually removed roughly 50 ticks from inguinal areas/legs. Not using either leg but has good tone, reflex, deep pain in both legs. Took rads and noted spinal/tail fracture (tail skewed right). Did not fully absorb fluids from yesterday so did not give more. Tubed 30cc half strength emeraid (I don't think he actually needs it but because he didn't absorb fluids and it was already pulled up I gave it to him). BCS is better than reported at admit. Forgot to recheck eyes but AD will do so at vet check. sprayed with adams again. Gave IM meds, gave oral meds. Dropped 33g chopped venison on chop block.

P: Discontinue emeraid, HF in PM if DNE (half clean half whole prey). Rx DMSA in case paralysis is in part related to lead. Rx tramadol for fracture.

A: Primary concern is for potential ocular issues in left eye, balling of left foot, and potential spinal trauma as indicated by abnormal positioning of tail. Heavy tick load may be contributing to bird's condition - tick paralysis a possibility. Bird is in poor body condition but basic blood values are WNL. Will try offering food tonight to see how patient handles it - may need to supplement calories with liquid diet if disinterested in eating. Guarded prognosis, will be able to better determine outcome once xrays have been taken and blood lead level is determined.

P: rx terbinafine, gabapentin, liver support, 3D vit B comp, SQ LRS. Start on half-strength Emeraid BID tomorrow to aid caloric intake. 4/23 - rx excede dose, collect fecal, redraw blood to check lead, intake rads. 4/24 - vet check. Clean wounds on both feet SID. Monitor for ticks, work on manually removing over time. Monitor for vision OS. Monitor L leg/foot use.
